What it is
E466 is carboxymethylcellulose, also called cellulose gum. Made from plant cellulose treated with sodium hydroxide and chloroacetic acid.
Why it matters
Thickener and stabiliser in ice cream, baked goods, low-fat spreads, toothpaste, and many cosmetic formulations.
