What it is
E460 covers microcrystalline cellulose (E460i) and powdered cellulose (E460ii), both refined from plant fibre (cotton linters, wood pulp).
Why it matters
Anti-caking agent in grated cheese, bulking agent in low-calorie foods, dietary-fibre supplement. Pharmaceutical tablets use a lot of E460.
What to do
Always vegan. The cellulose-derived gums (E461 methylcellulose, E464 HPMC, E466 CMC) are likewise vegan.
