What it is
E385 is calcium disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate, a synthetic chelating agent.
Why it matters
Used to bind trace metals that would otherwise cause off-flavours or discolouration in canned beans, canned crab/shrimp (NB the food is not vegan but the additive is), pickled vegetables, salad dressings, soft drinks.
What to do
Always vegan as an additive.
