What it is
E170 is calcium carbonate — the same mineral that forms limestone, marble, and chalk. Food-grade is mined or precipitated chemically.
Why it matters
Used as a white pigment, anti-caking agent, calcium fortifier, and acidity regulator. Common in bread (fortification), table salt (anti-caking), supplements, and toothpaste.
